The announcement came at the end of November on The National Grocers Association Foundation’s official website and almost immediately explains how the new site has been “strategically designed” to assist as a “comprehensive resource hub, offering invaluable information and technical assistance to retailers who are either considering or currently navigating the enrollment process for the USDA’S SNAP online purchasing pilot.”
SNAP EBT Modernization Technical Assistance Center (SEMTAC) was created with the idea to supply “information and technical assistance to retailers who are interested or currently in the process of enrolling into the USDA’S SNAP Online Purchasing Pilot,” according to the official release statement.
Both the National Grocers Association Foundation and USDA’S Food and Nutrition Service acknowledge the difficulties that retailers may face when it comes to being able to navigate eCommerce technology, especially those who aren't as familiar with the industry.
To help fix the issue SEMTAC will provide these retailers with 1-on-1 technical assistance with USDA approved resources and industry experts so these retailers can learn how to create their own SNAP Online supported eCommerce sites.
An Administrator from FNS explains the importance of this new website by stating “As the digital landscape continues to evolve, it is essential for SNAP retailers to have the right tools and assistance to navigate the complexities of online platforms. The launch of this technical assistance center will provide retailers the knowledge and support they need to offer a seamless online grocery shopping experience for SNAP participants.”
The National Grocers Association’s release statement ends by saying that not only will the SEMTAC website support retailers with SNAP online purchases but additionally it will offer “updates and technical assistance on other SNAP modernization updates as those programs become a reality, including the SNAP Mobile Payments Pilot, which will test contactless payment options.”
It is clear that the two companies took the time and dedication to create this new website that is sure to become a valuable resource for retailers and SNAP participants, whilst also leaving room for the website to adapt to the evolving technology of eCommerce.
