The Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) provides temporary food assistance to low-income households facing losses following a natural disaster. Unlike the traditional SNAP program, D-SNAP is designed for those who do not normally qualify for food assistance, but who have incurred disaster-related expenses.
According to the official government website, “D-SNAP provides funds on an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card to pay for food.” In addition, “even if you do not normally receive or do not qualify for SNAP, you may qualify for D-SNAP.” This program is only available in states with a President's Individual Assistance statement.

Current SNAP recipients may also apply for replacement benefits for any food purchased with SNAP that was lost due to the disaster. To do so, it is necessary to contact the local SNAP office and provide the necessary details to process the application.
